RSS Explained

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a technology that allows users to subscribe to “feeds”. Feeds usually consist of headlines or other dynamic Web content. When a feed is updated by its provider, subscribed users automatically receive the updated content via their “aggregator” or “feed reader”.

An aggregator (aka “RSS reader” or “feed reader”) is required to utilize RSS. While there are many different types of aggregators (desktop, browser-centric, or web-site based applications), all require the URL of a feed before the feed can be displayed.

Your chosen aggregator will have instructions regarding its specific subscription process. In most cases, the subscription process simply requires “copying and pasting” the URL into the aggregator.

For browser based aggregators, clicking an RSS icon within the browser will initiate the subscription process.
